"Briefcase to Backpack" - My Round The World Trip/ Your fave travel places

  • Rating: 4 after 3 votes
In only 51 days I will be stepping on a plane and leaving my hometown, gorgeous Central Coast, for the unknown. Starting in Greece in March, I will travel Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, South & Central America.

With my extremely loose itinerary, no time deadlines and ability to make money on the road, my options really are limitless. To that end- where is YOUR favorite country? city? coffee shop? all over the world.

Any suggestions are welcome- I like to do and see it all!

Good luck on your trip i hope you really enjoy it. My Daughter is moving to Whales to live w/ her boy friend. This should be a new journey in her life. She really took a liking to it last time she was there.

My favorite place in the world is Istanbul, which I think is the most romantic city in the world. Leslie posted some pictures here.

I LOVE Istanbul. I think it is possibly one of the most magical places I have ever had the privilege of seeing. The food, customs, mosques, bazaars- I could spend forever there! Great pick, Elise. Where else have you been?

Yes, yes, yes! How about a Turkish bath at Cemberlitas Hamami?

Brandy, travel is my passion, so I'm a bit envious of your trip around the world!

One of my favorite trips was to India, where I did The Golden Triangle - Delhi, Agra, & Jaipur. I love the architecture. The Taj Mahal is simply amazing, as are the numerous forts. I'll never forget the 5 hour drive (somewhat precarious) through the Rajasthan region between Agra and Jaipur, with working camels pulling carts laden with goods, roadside shows with tame bears, the way you could see clusters of yellow, orange and red off in the distance, in the middle of nowhere, only to realize as we'd draw closer that it was the beautiful, colorful dress of the women of the area.

Also high on my list of favorites are Morocco, Egypt, Thailand, and Malaysia.

At the top of my list of places yet to visit are Jordan, Syria, and Israel.
Petra, Jordan

When in Venice, Italy you must eat here:

In Florence our favorite restaurants are:

We have others all over the place but we are most familiar wth Italy because my wife used to live there and we go back often to see friends.

I'm sure you will probably tour the great wine regions.

Lake Como is beautiful as well. We stayed at Villa D'Este right on the lake and sat next to Donatella Versace one night. Enjoyed some great regional wines there.

I love traveling too and like Elise and way envious of your journey. I wish I were brave enough and had the money to a trip like you're doing. I hope you have a great time and post lot's of pics for us to see. As far as my favorite places...hmmm...in Japan I stayed in a Ryokan. It's a traditional Japanese style hotel with a natural hot spring. I can't remember the name of the ciry, but they are everywhere. I didn't stay there until the last 3 days of my trip and if I could do it there I'd stay the whole time in traditional hotel. They bring breakfast to you in morning and make your bed, then lunch and dinner are done the same way. They also have tea time in your room and the spa was wonderful, food was great and they had a karaoke lounge that was open 24 hours a day. My hotel was a block from the beach and was during their spring festival so there were parades and lot's of cultural activites going on.

good luck!
