Why do women think they know better what it means to be a man?

What I mean is, that's where I'm coming from. Where are you coming from?

Probably because we have to deal with you so much, I'm not saying I know what its like to be a man, Where are you coming from RICHARD????????

isn't this somewhat of a cultural phenomenon rather than a global condition?

Lack of emotions? Because as a child we were told to stop crying and man up! Just think if we were in a crisis and we acted like women who would save the day. (ok, you asked for that, haha). I guess if you can generalize so can I.

Why ask why? You know why.

Think about the men you are attracted to. Strong, self assured, and many more qualities that are hard to accomplish if your emotions are at the surface. How fast would you dump that guy if he started asking you if his jeans made his butt look huge. You'd just run the other way muttering "Pansy" under your breath.

I consider myself a mature woman but at 83 I'm finding I don't have the control I used to have. You know, can't stand on my own two feet as well and other control when I cough too hard! lol

I don't think it's about feeling happy as a result of this kind of intimate expression. For me, it really is more about that level of intimacy with another, in and of itself. It brings upon me a sense of completeness, a feeling of being a part of another, a feeling of acceptance. In fact, most of the emotion I express outside of a laugh are antithetical to happiness.

well said, and ditto.

I DO express my emotions, but only to very select women. The rest of the time, I guess I figure no one else has the need to know.

Emotions are the body's reaction to the mind. We all feel emotion but as Ed says, many men have been "conditioned" not to express emotion lest we be perceived as weak (call it Toxic Masculinity). The reasons for this go back thousands of years and are the subject of countless books, movies and discussions. Now things are changing.
Today men are being "reconditioned" to feel, express, resolve. I can think of nothing that requires more strength and courage for a man today. Impossible to have a loving relationship without feeling and expressing. Makes sense to me. Women have always known this to be true. Not to mention that unresolved feelings are at the root of so many mental and physical disorders from which we suffer today.
Good bye Clint Eastwood!!! Just hang in there, Tonia. We're workin on it!!
