A place to meet your neighbors & exchange ideas

That’s what I’ll have on my sign as I express my right to free speech at the July 4th Tea Party in San Luis Obispo.

I just found out that an event has been organized in SLO as the last ones, on April 15th, were in other communities like Atascadero and Santa Maria. As a registered Independent, I’m planning to attend to express my dissatisfaction with the direction our federal government (Democrats and Republicans) is going specifically with regard to excessive spending, increasing the size of government and forays into the private sector.

I know many on this Forum don’t approve of certain types of speech, specifically speech that they disagree with, and I’m expecting the worst from this posting. In any case, if you’re not pleased with what’s going on in Washington, whether left-leaning, right-leaning or moderate, consider attending one of the tea parties in the area on July 4th and have your voice heard.

I’m not associated with the event or any organization promoting the event. Rather I’m just regular folk and noticed no mention of this event on the Forum. So you’re now advised that the SLO event will be at Santa Rosa Park, July 4th from noon to 2:30pm as posted on their website: www.sloteaparty.com

Knut to just label it as "rich" is unjust. From your past statements I judge you as rich. Anyone who has a plantion in Hawaii is Rich and a Tesla.

I know from your post you are a caring person. So is rich alone is not the correct term or is it?
Thanks for sharing this article with us.
Unfortunately, bad things happen to otherwise good people. Just look at Farah Fawcett. But I call that life. It’s our individual responsibility to make the best of whatever cards we’re dealt.

You’re example of someone getting “clocked” by a car… I don’t know if you know such a person or it’s just theoretical, But in either case, first there’s family that should step in to help (mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, cousins, children, friends), then their church or synagogue, followed by local charities for which there are many and finally, as provider of last resort, the government. I just don’t think the government should be at the top of the list.

My suggestion, if you know someone like the person you describe, extend a helping hand.

As far as being tax more I think people like you, I and a lot on this site can find better ways to help the poor than the government. I know i spent a lot of time and money this way and I feel better for it.

You know it hurts my feeling when people say traders have no conscience. One of my first mentors who happens to be a preacher supports his 6 missionaries through trading profits. (millions) That hundreds of kids that would go hungry or w/o shelter if it wasn't for him.

Money isn't so much the issue, it's the quality of life. I think good people do good things. I've seen rich and poor make a difference.

Criticizing the rich is soooo unbecoming. And soooo un-American. This country was built on freedom and opportunity. The opportunity to be happy, free and RICH. We should celebrate those who achieve wealth through honest, hard work and natural, God-given talent. I immediately think of folks I admire like Oprah, Bill Gates and Tiger Woods. And what do these rich people do… they improve our lives through their talent and ingenuity and give back millions and millions to our community. Yes, we do have the occasional Bernard Madoff’s of the world and they should be found, prosecuted and jailed. But no one should use a broad brush to condemn those who have succeeded and become rich following the rules.

Knut, if you’re embarrassed by your success, don’t be. And never diminish what you’ve accomplished. It’s okay to be successful… Wouldn’t we want everyone to achieve success and be rich?

The first line probably killed the rest of us from reading any farther :)

Dave, first let me say you are a good guy. LMAO = laughing my!@#$%off.

Hannity like Frankin report what they see. The problem is they only see one side. Do you hear the words of joy coming out of these guys mouth, no it's hate. Even if it is true, it's wrong. Do you see a difference btw him and Alan Combs his counter part. Alan can get his point across without belittling others.

These guys are not reporters, these guys have opinions. They are a hybrid. They preach to the masses the people who work all day and try to shape minds by taking small areas of key points and issues and trying to make that the whole issue. So what they are saying is true for that part, but may not be true for it all.

Take Glen Beck and his cap and trade, he implies that for every home that is sold we will have to make it green before the sale or the governemt will. This is not so as of yet, but that is the bill of goods he's pushing.

Listen to them all, then form your own opinions. No one needs to be a robot.

so true. so how can you trust any of it?

anything you repeatedly engage in provides some form of pleasure to you, even if it's only a form of identification. if you are truly displeased, you would stop.

Dennis you are right. David I get your point, but to start of by saying "Hannity" more or less discredits what is said next.

Knowledge is not power. Applied knowledge is!

Dave it is not that I don't believe Hannity. Did you ever hear the story of the seven blind men and an elephant. They were told to go up to it and describe what they felt. One grab the tail and said a rope, another a leg and said a tree trunk and so on. This is the info I believe we get from most of them. It is our job to piece it together.

What I dislike is them using the term "fair and balanced". If this were true we'd have Hannity praising Obama an equal amount of the time.

You are right this bills should be torn apart and looked at point by point. Scare tatics turns me off. Opposing views mainly highlight their good points and leave off the others good points.

Thanks Dave for proving my point!
