Any Suggestions - Other fun hikes? 12 Replies

I love hiking lately, but only go to Madonna or Bishops Peak - I alternate them, but tend to get bored after a while. Does anyone have any other suggestions? HAPPY HIKING!?!?!?!

Would anyone be interested in a hike out Pt. Sal way Saturday, 12/13? 6 Replies

I'd be happy to have some folks go along, if there is interest. The hike is strenuous, being about 5.5 miles each way. The first 2.4 miles rises from 650 ft msl to 1250 msl. then descends to sea leve…

I will be hiking out to Pt. Sal State beach again on Saturday morning, Jan 30. Let me know if you plan on going so that I can forward any last minute details.
I start walking promptly at 9:00 am. Read the hike description in the "Hotspots" section:

Anyone want to hike the Point Sal trail with me on Sunday, Jan 3?
It's near Guadalupe, moderate to strenuous, in and out, about 11 miles to the beach and back. Requires 3-4 hours total time.

I went on out to Pt. Buchon Saturday. The trail had healed nicely following the rain. It was a little breezy, but still a wonderful afternoon. Be advised: winter hours out there now. Trail is shut down and gates locked at 4:00 pm

I'm going to hike out the Pt. Buchon trail at Montana de Oro this Saturday afternoon, Oct 17. If anyone wants to go, you are more than welcome. See the Pt. Buchon Hike discussion above for details.

The first half of the Point Sal hike, up to the VAFB gate and back, is 4.8 miles r/t. Uphill most of the way, but the incline isn't too bad. You'd probably feel about the same as when you got back from the Lighthouse, even though this is a little farther.
If you go all the way to the beach, it's closer to 11 miles, and considerably steeper.
Elise Comment by Elise on June 28, 2009 at 4:40pm
Hey Walt, I don't know anything about this hike, and I'm too lazy to get out my SLO Hikes guidebook in this moment (plus, even if I looked it up, I'd still turn to you for advice) .... so, tell me, if I give you these parameters: the lighthouse hike was a bit much with the incline, the BJT is pretty flat and a slight bit more of an incline might be okay if distance were less, how does Point Sal compare?
