HEALING TRANSITION TRAUMA IN THE NEW DECADE

All links from this article may be viewed at Speaking Truth to Power

Ten years ago this moment, America was awaiting the inauguration of a new President. We knew that the new Bush administration would bring at least four years of darkness, but we had no idea how dark, nor that a second hijacked election would follow the first, nor the extent to which the influence of Bush II would extend into the future. Certainly, we had no inkli… Continue

WINTER SOLSTICE: WORKING AND WAITING IN HUMANITY'S BACK WARD, By Carolyn Baker

O dark dark dark. They all go into the dark.
The vacant interstellar spaces......
I said to my soul, be still, and wait without hope
For hope would be hope for the wrong thing; wait without love
For love would be love of the wrong thing; there is yet faith
But the faith and the love and the hope are all in the waiting.
Wait without thought, for you are not ready for thought:
So the darkness shall be the light, and the stillness the dancing.

TRANSITION TOWNS OR BRIGHT GREEN CITIES? Carolyn Baker Responds to Alex Steffen of "Worldchanging"

Reprinted from TRANSITION TIMES

Alex Steffen’s “Transition Towns or Bright Green Cities?” of October 26 presents a kind of spectrum for environmental groups, ranging from “dark green” to “light green”, that may be more about visual impairment than color-coding. That is to say that it attempts to analyze and classify the Tr… Continue

HUMANITY'S RITE OF PASSAGE: A WORLD TENDED BY ADULTS, By Carolyn Baker

For one who has perception,

A mere sign is enough.

For one who does not heed,

A thousand explanations

Are not enough

Hajji Bektash Wali

13th Century Persian Mystic,

During the past twelve months, it has been reassuring to see vast numbers of individuals in the United States awaken to the reality that life on this planet has profoundly shifted and will never be the same. Many have radically altered their career goals, spending and saving patterns, and their long-term priorities. Whe… Continue

Hi Elise: Yes, I've read it as well as Joseph Tainter's wonderful book on the collapse of complex societies. They were part of my inspiration for writing my book SACRED DEMISE: WALKING THE SPIRITUAL PATH OF INDUSTRIAL CIVILIZATION'S COLLAPSE. Diamond and Tainter addressed the issue from the scientific perspective, and I wanted to address if from the emotional and spiritual perspective.

Carolyn - I'm enjoying your blog post, and will have to visit your website. Have you read Jared Diamond's Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail? I have it, but have yet to tackle it, although I would love to get your feedback on it.
